Montenegro the pearl of the Adriatic

Montenegro is a beautiful, charming country with a small population and more than 2.5 million visitors yearly. Montenegro is a Mediterranean country located in south-eastern Europe, positioned across the Adriatic Sea from Italy.

It has a population of 633,158 inhabitants (2023, Montenegro’s Statistical Office), 29.8% of which live in the capital, Podgorica and 23.6% live on the coastal area. Montenegro has been a sovereign state since its independence from the union with Serbia.

It has since joined NATO in 2017 and is set to be the next country to join the European Union (EU), expected to take place around 2025. A transition is already underway, and it has adopted the Euro as its sole legal tender.

The Montenegrin government’s objective is to create an environment that is business-friendly, with minimal state interference and an open economy with low taxes. Since regaining its independence in 2006, Montenegro has adopted a legal framework that encourages privatization, employment, and exports.

A luxury sailing destination.

Montenegro has rapidly emerged as one of the most attractive yacht destinations in the Mediterranean, combining natural beauty with world-class facilities. Nestled between dramatic mountain landscapes and the crystal-clear waters of the Adriatic, the country offers a unique mix of unspoiled coastline, historic charm, and modern luxury.

With over 290 kilometers of coastline and more than 100 picturesque beaches, Montenegro provides endless opportunities for exploration by sea. The UNESCO-protected Bay of Kotor, often described as a fjord-like jewel, is a must-see for yacht travelers, offering stunning scenery, medieval towns, and calm sheltered waters.

In recent years, Montenegro has also invested heavily in marina infrastructure, making it a premier base for yachts and superyachts. Porto Montenegro in Tivat has set new standards as a luxury marina village, offering deep-water berths, five-star services, and an international lifestyle hub. Other marinas such as Portonovi in Herceg Novi and Lustica Bay further expand the country’s capacity to welcome yacht owners and charter guests alike.
